Nickolas 2005
Tort 2005
Prior to our son being born our kitties were our babies. They were loved and adored like little princes. Since they were kittens they've been the center of everyone in this household's attention. We regulate their food to a half a cup each twice a day. I've taught them to sit up pretty, they "say please" before getting food, and both of our cats can "sing" the song from Lady and The Tramp... "We are Siamese If You Please MEOW..." they will sing every meow requested of them. Everything was fine until... "that baby" entered the house. (Excuse my hiiiigh whine-y voice. How embarassing.)
As of late every time they see either Loving Husband or myself move they bolt for the kitchen... for food - Nickolas is a pro at pawing at our food out of our hands (the audacity!) and their table manners (though always poor) are now appalling. Then they get started meowing, and then the baby fusses, and then the phone rings, then there's a dirty diaper.... and sadly the cats draw the short end of the attention stick and so in the interest of getting them to leave us alone we feed them. We've been neglectful kitty-mommas and daddys. It's true. I acknowledged that they're meowing for food because that's when they get the attention - so we try to pet them more. They are getting better (this is an extremely relative term) especially now that I've made the connection between neediness and food. But the truth remains: our kitties are eating their feelings.
Now they always bulk up a bit in winter simply because they don't go run around outside as much - it's cold here! So inside they stay sleeping on the back of the couch... and to be fair to these two - they are large cats to begin with. They have always weighed 13+ pounds since reaching adulthood. Tort is a maine coon - they're average is 16-17lbs. So we wouldn't ever have dainty cats. These are a man's man cat!
So allow me to introduce our kitties in all their glory (and my is there a lot of it!) For comparisons to their former selves I've posted "Pre Baby Weight*" pictures and "Post Baby Weight" pictures taken today. :) Those will be the only of their kind ever posted on this here website!
* To be fair it should be noted that the "pre baby weight" pictures were taken in the summer of 2006 and they were barely a year old. So they were still spry teenagers and not to their full adult bodied potential... but for comparison and dramatic sake :)

The pre baby and post baby weight thing HILARIOUS!
Just stopping by from SITS! =]
Oh my you lol your cats like we love our dogs! how fun,
thanks for stopping by my blog. If you ever are interested in a cricut, don't buy it on tv, email me and I will send you to a site where they offer great discounts and helpful hints. I had a friend who bought one off tv and paid three times retail for it. We love our cricut and the fun, quick, and easy things you can create. I love your blog!
love your blog, and glad that your kitties were your babies pre-children...so sweet!
This is so funny LOL! I <3 kitties. I have 2 of my own.
Happy SITS day!
Nice to know that someone else will put on baby-weight with you! My husband lost weight during my pregnancy....the audacity!

My 5 y.o. Daughter would love to have all of those cats/kitties :O)
Too funny.
Made me LOL! Not just toddlers that suffer from new baby jealousy! Loved the pictures :).
My kids would so love to have a kitty - I'm not showing them this post!
Pretty kitties!!!!
I just got a kitten myself a few weeks ago, and I love seeing how they change & grow.
Hi www.greedygirlsguide.com
checking in from SITS
HAPPY SITS DAY! The cats need a weight watchers meeting! I am a dog person myself, but I recently had a kitten-encounter that has softened my stance toward the feline species:
http://littlefrecklebaby.blogspot.com/2009/08/cat-metaphors-and-new-blog-coming.html
kitty weight watchers has a 4 step program lol. 1. lay on bed 2. go to sleep and 3. get up and eat 4. repeat. They seem to be following this nicely ;)
kitties are so cute! sits!
Happy SITS day!! Ha-Ha, I think my kitty girls gained baby weight too!! : )
HIlarious!!! Happy SITS day! Love your blog!
That video is cute! However, I want to hear the cats sing!! lol Maybe next time?
awww...i want a kitty!! I love those first pictures of them as kitties! So cute!! Happy SITS day!
I am so glad to know I am not the only one to gain baby weight. For some reason it is comforting to hear that your cat's gained post baby weight. So funny!
Cute video and your cats are adorable! Happy SITS day!
It's funny how cats (and dogs) can get jealous just like we do.
Your cats are too funny!
Happy SITS day!
Okay the fact that you taught them to meow along to the Siamese Cat Song is hilarious! It is amazing how out pets take on human traits, isn't it? They are beautiful cats!
They are beautiful cats!
WOW.......I had a Maine Coon and they are large....but hello, LOL!!
Happy SITS Day!
i have a half maine coon and he is HUGE. then i have a regular short hair, and he is almost as big. something about those male cats... :)
happy SITS day!
Oh your boys are handsome! 3/4 of my kitties are chubbers too. So don't feel bad.
So cute! I can only imagine how our babies (the cat and dog) will react when we have a baby. I don't think it's going to be pretty!
Emotional eaters...I can relate to that! LOL!
AH, poor neglected kitties. Just kidding. Your son is way cuter, who can blame you. LOL
I used to have dreams about nursing kitties when I was pregnant with my little girl.
Funny! Very smart of you to "introduce" them to the newest member of your family! The weight pictures are funny too! Thanks for the good laugh. Enjoy your FB day.
How darn cute are they!!! haha congrats on being FB of the day! :)
Oh my, tee hee...isn't that funny!
Jamie :)
Our cats were our babies, too. They thought they had it rough when one kid entered the picture...then baby #2 arrived! Poor kitties.
At least you feed them. :-)
Beautiful cats, I have a Maine Coon as well. She's pushing 13 pounds and somehow ended up soaking wet on her legs and underbelly a few days ago. We think she was hanging out on the top stair of the pool. She's a strange one.
They look nice a health. I love cats and your look a lot like mine. I have had mine for about 7 years and luckily never had a problem when my daughter arrived. I wonder how he will be when my son gets her in Sept.
I think my voice sounds high and nasally so I hate hearing myself on video. Love the cats.
hehe! That's funny!
Happy SITSday!
I love the pointy ears on the first one and the big fluffy chest furries on the second. Cute cats.
They are beautiful cats. They don't look fat to me.
Happy SITS day!
What cute, cute kitties. I too had cats before I had my kids. They were my babies! Cute video.
I feel bad for our two cats. Things went downhill for them too when we brought home the Mini-Dork.
What funny kitties! Loved how "into" the baby they were!
The high pitched voice is part of being a new mommy. It takes a bit to master it.
And I love the pre-baby pictures. LOVE IT!
We had a "baby" too BEFORE the real baby came along! Hahaha!
So sweet! I have been wanting to get a cat ever since I moved out of my parent's house and away from our family cat. But we can't have pets where we live. SAD!
Happy SITS day!
Pretty Kitties! My mom had a cat that weighed over 20lbs. He was just fat! He was also diabetic, and she gave him insulin shots every day.
Happy SITS Day!
That is too funny!
Poor pudgy kitties - having their emotional eating habits - and the results - displayed for all the world to see! ;)
Haha - cute post!
Ha ha ha!
but poor little kitties getting the short stick.
LOL That is funny....they are so cute, though.
Awww... what sweet babies!! I don't know what my dog would do if I ever had a baby... probably have some sort of nervous breakdown. LOL
Gulp...eating their feelings hey..does this explain my sudden increase in baby weight or do you think that's umm...just 'cuz I'm a baby??
Seriously, does my bum look big in this diaper?
BlogBaby
P.S. Happy SITS day!
Happy SITS day!
Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! I big cat lover - I have a 1/2 burmese tabby - he's a beaut!
Congrats on making FB.
B x
Haha this is hilarious! Poor kitties!
Oh, how kitties suffer when babies come along. While our cat Sandman loved my daughter in utero, he used her as a cushion, he deeply despises the toddler she has become. Although now that she is starting to feed him, he seems to warm up to her. Just a tiny little bit...
Happy SITS Day!
Funny post. It's interesting how pets can become jealous when a new person comes around. Congratulations on being a featured blogger.
Stopping by from SITS
Gorgeous kitties....
LOL! Happy SITS Day!
You have a great blog, so glad I stopped by.
This was awesome!
Poor kitties--- they need a diet!
Cute pix. Happy Sits day!
LOL! My cats have also gained a little weight too! I guess it just comes with getting older... or stress (same as us humans!) :)
HAPPY SITS DAY!!
this is the first time i've ever heard of "baby" weight in a cat. :-)
Your fur babies are quite fabulous! And don't worry. My babies have rounded out a bit too. Ah ha
Happy SITS day! What cute kitties!
Thats my problem...its my kids that are making me fat....hmmmm.
I can't imagine my son around all of those cats - party time!!! :-)
I always think kitties are so darn cute - but then they grow up
Hi, I'm Ace (The Cat) - I'm 12, fat & lazy, nice to meet you!
My owners were fur-free for awhile. I replaced The Dog (Black Lab).
Mom is a cat person, who married a Dog person.
I win.
Happy SITS
