5k

No not $5,000 dollars sadly, but a 5k walk. Yes today that is what I did with my morning. I woke up absurdly early at 7:45am and joined my friend Vanessa on a 5k fun run (aka WALK with kids and strollers) A few other's joined us including Vanessa's friend Rebecca, her SIL, her SIL's FIL, and Vanessa's dad. It was forecasted to be raining. De-lightful! However, Vanessa and I came prepared with covers for the strollers and thankfully although required for the little ones, didn't rain enough to really impact us.

The 5k walk we participated in was the Free Them 5k hosted by World Concern. The organization is focused on stopping human trafficking and this run was raising money for women and children at risk of, or enslaved in, the injustices of sexual exploitation, trafficking and slave labor. If I can't get my lazy-ass out of bed for that... well then...

Seriously, ask anyone that knows me - I am NOT an athlete. I am NOT an outdoorsy girl. I am NOT even play with a frisbee and jog around the park girl. No I got that all out of my system in high school and there is NO looking back for me. But a 5k? That's do-able! And it was! Our group of six paired off nicely as the walk went on and we managed to walk in groups of twos. Vanessa and I were with each other and our babes in plastic-coating. :) We were NOT last and that was all that we were aiming for. However we were beyond disturbed when not 15 minutes in we were being lapped!!! We were convinced that he wasn't in our race. haha. CRAZY! Once upon a time I could run a 6 minute mile... that was several decades, pounds, and pre-knee surgeries ago. No desire, no ability... go you speedy man! Vanessa and I crossed the finish line just at 64 minutes and 32 seconds. Not too shabby I say! Our two plastic-wrapped babes enjoyed most of their first 5k slumbering, which is just the way we like it!

Would I do it again? Sure... but my knee says not for a few weeks. Man how did my body get so old?! Happy Saturday, everyone!

Ace enjoyed his little rain shelter!

That's so great that you did that together! The hubs and I were talking about doing a half marathon in his hometown. Wonder if our little man would be up for 13 miles? Ah ha! Found you on SITS and love your blog!
