Ringing In...
It was another low key year for us in this household. Two little ones and no babysitters available means we have a stay at home celebration, with one nice exception - my friend Mo came to visit us! We've been having a nice time the last few days playing tourist and showing her around the area, yesterday her and I went and saw a movie (New Years Eve, which we both really liked in spite of bad abysmal reviews) but for NYE festivities we stayed close to home.
I made some tomato bacon bites, we had some cheese and crackers, and other munchies to graze on through dinner and the evening. Ace was allowed to stay up until New York New Years. To pass the time we played a half a game of Candy Land before Ace had a anti-establishment meltdown and earned himself a timeout. We moved away from structured playing, I broke out the party hats and the noise makers, put on a movie and later on he did one of his floor puzzles all by himself (very proud!) partially with an audience. :)
Mo and Loving Husband played War. Loser takes a shot (beer for LH or diet coke for Mo) - I made a booze run mid-game. A few beers and sodas later we moved to the living room, called Grammie via Skype and rang in NY New Years (4 minutes late) with Ace. We missed any official countdown or ball drop - so we faked it via an old video online of last year's ball drop. :) Hugs and happy new years were said and Ace went off to bed, after observing some fireworks that neighbors were setting off.
Mae was a happy and wide awake girl. She rang in EST New Years, CST, and MST... She was a busy girl, playing peekaboo with my scarf, walking around the house, playing horsey with her dad, and in general just was WIDE awake and having fun. She finally made it to sleep about 20 minutes away from the new year PST.
After Mae went to sleep, the adults headed over to the dining table for a game of Dutch Blitz, which after remembering how to play we had to pause mid-second round to toast in the new year and 5 minutes later Mae was awake again! We called it a night on the game - and LH headed to bed. Mo and I headed downstairs to enjoy a little more tv and I got Mae asleep on me. We called it a night and headed to bed around 2:30am. It was an excellent although tame NYE!
Can't wait to see what 2012 brings us! Happy New Year, everyone!!

Happy New Year!
I know, I'm a tad out of order on my posts - but eh sue me. ;-)
Our new year was extremely low key. Compared to past years of festivities. Last year we had a quieter event with some of our family, this year it was just the 3.5 of us.
We allowed Ace to stay up and enjoy the New York New Year. He enjoyed playing around much past his normal 7:30 bedtime and enjoying some bubbly of his own (Sprite and apple juice.) We watched the ball drop in Time Square, snapped one final family photo of 2010 - and Ace helped count down to the new year.
After we got him tucked into bed, I searched the tv for anything to watch - Men in Black ended up being the winner - but it was only the last 15 minutes of the movies... so after that was over - I went and grabbed MiB2 and we tossed that in the DVD player. Loving Husband I enjoyed watching that while crocheting and playing on the computer (I'll let you figure out whom enjoyed which secondary activity.)
The movie ended right around 11:30, just in time to switch it to some NYE 'entertainment' New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys together??? What every 1990's-pre-teen's dream was... back in the 90s. Seriously, guys?! Wow. The NKOTB looked like men from wall street ... as they should be since they're pushing 40! In the final moments we switched over to the local feed and watched the firework show at the Space Needle. Loving Husband and I enjoyed ringing in the new year just the two of us... while Mae squirmed around on the inside... making her mommy happy by finally ensuring that she would in fact be a January baby!
Loving Husband and I headed to bed around 1am... and around 5:30, Ace woke up and threw up. Ugh! What a way to ring in the new year. It wasn't much and after he calmed down he wanted to go back to sleep in his own bed. I asked twice if he was sure... and he was sleepy already and said "I'm sure, mommy." Made me a little sad that he didn't want to come snuggle with him after getting sick. I went back to my bed and prayed it was a fluke. However, I couldn't fall asleep much before 6am and I awoke again to him coughing (his tell) at 6:20... LH got to him with the bowl and he threw up again a tad more than before, but not much. At that point he was all done sleeping and ready to be awake. He was his chipper happy self. So I got up with him and LH went back to bed for a bit. Odd to me what he threw up was his lunch from the day before... not his dinner or any subsequent snacks he had after lunch... just the hot dog. Aside from being tired later in the day - he's had no more issues... so I guess it was just the hot dog, but still odd and not the way I wanted to begin the new year!
We being up at 6:20am put on a movie and he played around while I sleepily sat observing him to make sure he really was ok. Then around 8am I turned on the Rose Parade. I tradition that I absolutely love on New Year's morning. Ace was compliant when I'd try to show him something, but overall wasn't terribly interested. Our day remained low key and Ace continued to feel fine.
We're very much enjoying 2011 so far, and are excited to see what this year has to hold for our family!

Happy New Year!
Welcome to a new year, a new decade! I look forward to what this new year has to offer. Our New Year's Eve was much quieter than previous years (and last year) we had immediate family here and we had an excellent steak dinner, Ace went to sleep at 8, but don't worry before he went to sleep he had some excellent fun with the party hats!
This year we rang in New York's new year. While waiting we enjoyed several tasty fruiting drinks, and then broke out the champagne to toast in 2010 at 9pm. By 10pm half the 'party' left around 10pm.

Afterwards we all broke out our computers and rang in the NW's new year while enjoying the decade prior's technology advancements.
Here's to another year! Happy New Year, everyone!

Happy New Year!
Enjoy a sampling of our New Years Eve!
Signs were posted on all the doors so people would know where they could and could not go.

Once all the signs were hung it was time to party!
Ace sported some fashionable tie-dye and bell-bottoms.
I was your standard flower child... and my husband....
A riot cop!

Happy Groovy New Year, everyone!
Readying for the party!
The Annual New Years Eve Party is rapidly approaching....
Loving Husband and I are buzzing around getting all the final touches in order and then decorating will commence shortly. This years theme is the 70s! And why not groove into the new year in a quite amusing theme. Below is our invite - sorry blogging world you're not invited to our event - but you can be amused by my husband's prose!
What do Pet Rocks, leisure suits, and Jimmy Hoffa all have in common? New Age hedonism? Standing up to "The Man"? A well-deserved end? NO! They are all part of this year's "Righteous New Year's Eve"!
Yes that's right, join us in remembering an era (presumably) gone forever, and celebrate in a "far out" way! Hippies, environmentalists, and feminists unite! Roll out that Flower Power! (Alternatively, recall that the 70s also included the Cold War, Vietnam, Buck Rogers, and Hawaii Five-0.) :)
Whether you're a NARC, Granola, Spaz, or Crook, it's all copacetic. Bring on the Farrah Fawcett hair, mustaches, and bell-bottoms, and boogie like it's 1970-something! Drink as much or as little as you like, nobody is going to harsh your buzz.
If you're a fan of the Brady Bunch, Star Wars, Bruce Lee, or the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Israel still kicked the **** out of its neighbors! Er, that is-- Don't be a Jive Turkey! Invite someone cool, dress for the occasion, and there will be plenty of peace and love to go around at this year's RIGHTEOUS NEW YEAR'S EVE!
Also for your amusement pleasure enjoy our two past parties and then glorious themes that accompanied them. Can you guess the decades we enjoyed our frivolity in?
