The Magical World of Disney
Have I mentioned that I love Disneyland? :) I do and I love even more sharing the experience with my children and seeing it through their eyes. It's so exciting to get to see my boy giggling with delight on a ride, or Mae in awe as a "Printhess" walks by her. It's adorable to hear Mae say "Hiiiii" and "Byeee" to everyone that goes by on the parade route. Ace so excited that he meets the height requirement that allows him to soar over California ;-) or ride on Star Tours for the very first time! The energy that they produce is infectious and their joy is so catching. :) I love that Mae all through Pirates sang "Yo Ho Pirates" (and still does) - I love that Ace does pretty darn well shooting things on the Buzz Light Year ride (another ride where Mae said 'Hi' and 'Bye' to every alien as we moved along the ride.) I love sharing it with them! I also love photographing it! Enjoy!

We're Going to Disneyland!!
I couldn't have asked for a better reaction than this to our telling Ace about where we were going. We drove 2000 miles and made a stop at The Happiest Place on Earth: Disneyland! We kept it a secret from Ace, partly for the fun - but mostly in case we decided to bail on the idea... and this was his reaction. Priceless! Stay tuned for a post all about the adventure we had. :)

The Happiest Place on Earth
It really is one of my favorite places to go on Earth and sharing it with my children makes it all that much more exciting. On Tuesday of last week my mom, the kids and I set out in the morning and met up with Carrie and her daughter Avery.
Mae and Avery had never been to Disneyland and so our first stop was the Mad Hatter's Hat Shop to get them their very own Mickey ears. Mae was very excited to wear her ears... and later eat them. :)
This also required a photo-op in the famous tea cups. Carrie and I have a few of these shots and it's great to revisit the tea cup together once again and this time we had another generation to join us in the picture. :)
Ace was so excited to 'shoot things on Buzz' - he had remembered that you 'take out the guns and shoot things' and that was the ride he wanted to go on and so it was. He did GREAT! His first score was 3900, pretty dern good! That was with no help or guidance. He had a blast and at the end of the day he took home his very own Buzz Gun!
Next up was lunch, followed by Pirates in which Ace and Mae enjoyed a snooze, and then Winnie the Pooh ride and a favorite always the Jungle Cruise! I love to see him enjoy the ride more and more each time!
After the Jungle Cruise we headed over to California Adventure where we actually found a bench and parked it for a little while, fed Mae and Avery and let Ace just wiggle around for a while. We then took a long walk and walked over to the Ferris Wheel.
After that we left the park, did some shopping and headed home at the end of first day. :) It was a good day, great to spend time with Carrie and her daughter, and Ace had a BLAST. Mae did great and like always was such a happy baby. She left Disneyland with her very first Minnie Mouse which she loves and gets the biggest smile on her face each time you show it to her. Both kids were out by the time we got to the freeway to head home. :)
Day Two of Disneyland began later. I wanted to ensure that we had lunch before we left and so that Ace would have his nap in the car on the way to Disneyland. Both those things were accomplished and when Ace woke up in the parking lot he was SO excited. It was really cute. My mom and I loaded up the stroller and headed to catch the tram. We of course went straight to Buzz! This time with the help of the ride stopping a few times Ace's score was 5200! He could care less about his score, he just liked to shoot, but we were impressed!
We then headed back over to Pirates and then walked right onto the Haunted Mansion. It was the first time in YEARS that I had been on the Haunted Mansion when it wasn't decorated in the Nightmare Before Christmas theme. I enjoyed it. After that was over we went back to the Winnie the Pooh ride. The line there was less than 5 minutes and Ace went on it three times. :) Ace then requested the Jungle Cruise which was once again a must. This time Ace sat on the other side and got sprayed by the elephant at the end, which caused a big barrel laugh much to the amusement of the entire boat. Mae also had a good time smiling at the other passengers and distracting them from their cruise. ;)
Grammie and Ace took a ride on the carousel and then we all waited in line for Dumbo and enjoyed a good ride on Dumbo. Ace loved to make him go up and down. We then headed and grabbed some dinner, followed by another stop in the gift shop where I picked up a mickey snuggie (the cheapest 'warmth' they had in the park oddly enough for a steal at $25, hehe) and then we settled in to await fireworks. Ace loved them and especially Tinkerbell and Dumbo that flew across the wire from the Matterhorn. It was fun. We did one more round on Pirates to allow the crowds to thin and then we left the park around 11:30pm It was a long but fun day. It was another magical trip to the Happiest Place on Earth! :)

Disney Appliques
I am always of fan of Disney shirts while in Disneyland. I love all things Disney. I was able to find Ace a Cars shirt, his was easy enough to find there is always a plethora of Cars, Toy Story, and other Pixar gear out and about - however finding something for Mae proved more challenging. Plus there were two different days we were going to be inside the park... they can't *gasp* wear plain-ol clothes to Disneyland on Day Two... and in spite of the lack of options, those options they have are kind of pricey... especially for Mae who doesn't fit into anything for very long... and so I found on Pinterest via Carrie a cute applique pattern.
On the final day I was home, I gathered my supplies and got to cutting, ironing, and sewing on the appliques onto the tshirts. The entire project for BOTH shirts was $6. Can't beat that for sure and the kids looked pretty darn cute in them. :)
It took about 15-20 minutes per shirt to cut, iron, and sew everything together. Ace's mickey is larger and I simply didn't include the bow. :) Plus I used fabric that I already had to make his making the project even less expensive.
Mae's I used a zebra print handkerchief that I found at Walmart, as I was obtaining these supplies after all fabric stores were closed. I needed something that would work and it turned out a lot cuter than I had envisioned. The material for the bow I already had at home from a previous project.
I washed them up and they held together nicely. They're far from perfect on the applique stitching, but I'll get the technique down with more practice. As it worked out the kids looked super cute in them and they've already worn them twice and Ace has kept his clean both times!

Mickey Park - Day Two
On Friday last week we completed our tour of So Cal theme parks with another trip to 'Mickey Park' - Ace woke up and was so excited to go. We took our time, eating a good breakfast, returned our rental car, and then headed out with my mom to the park. It was warm, but not stifling and there wasn't a lot of humidity (since there had been rain and thunder in my mom's neck of the woods as well, it was a possibility.) It certainly was more crowded than when we went nearly two weeks ago (on a Monday) but it still wasn't bad.
We arrived and headed into Disneyland - we ventured onto Buzz first and then decided to grab lunch and hope that the rocket ships would be done with what was hopefully a 'routine' maintenance. I really wanted to take Ace on those, since he always talks about taking a rocket ship to the moon. :) We enjoyed Buzz and then grabbed ourselves some lunch near Space Mountain. Where we had a clear view of when the rocket ships would begin to work again. :)
They were going full speed when we finished lunch so we headed there next. I am pretty sure that was my first time on them. I am always a sucker for the nostalgia of the Dumbo ride and seeing as how it is basically the same thing, if I'm going to wait in a line for such a ride, it would be Dumbo. Ace having already experienced Dumbo last November, and having an affinity for rocket ships, these seemed like a must on his adventure in Disneyland. I have to say they go way faster than Dumbo! Ace loved it!
Next on the list was one of my favorites - the Haunted Mansion. We didn't make it on that one when we went two weeks ago, so it was a must. :) It was our longest line of the day ... around 25 minutes. Ace enjoyed walking on all the railing with Grandma's help, and after a bit nearly - but not quite - fell asleep on my shoulders. He enjoyed the ride which of course is decked out in the Nightmare Before Christmas attire, which I'm a fan of. Ace enjoyed it and loved all the bright colored presents everywhere.
Next up was Pirates - he enjoys that one - he holds my hand pretty tight through the whole thing, but he likes to look at everything - and in fact when asked after we left that night what his favorite part of Mickey Park was he said 'Pirates!' :) It warms my heart, since Pirates is hands down my favorite Disneyland ride. After Pirates we were onto the Jungle Cruise! A staple for this little guy of ours. He loves to look at all the animals, and I try to ignore the horrific commentary coming from our 'tour guide' :)
After we finished on the Jungle Cruise we headed out of Disneyland and ventured over to California Adventure. We were right on time to get in line to see the last LIVE show of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Since that programming is a staple in our house 3-5 days a week, it certainly was a MUST on our Mickey Park adventure -and boy did it pay off. Ace was so excited. I've never seen him so interested to engage and observe. Bubbles fall from the ceiling, leaves fall from the ceiling... it was so much fun to watch him inch away from me simply to get a better view. It was great.
Our final 'adventure' at Mickey Park was the Pixar Parade. We got a good sideline spot and left my mom with the stroller and Ace and I went into a store. I managed to stuff a box full of Mr. Potato Head pieces for a 'low' price of $19.95 - which will be a part of Ace's Christmas present. Got lots of good parts for him and I was thrilled that I didn't have to buy another potato head. :) We also got a cell phone for Kaylee as a present. Then headed back and waited for the show to start. He watched intently - and was greeted often by the characters in the parade, which he accepted with cautious glances back at me and Grammie. It was great. He got pretty excited when Buzz and Woody finally made their appearance and Lightening McQueen and Mater too.
With the parade done, we headed out of the park and out into Downtown Disney. Ace picked out a Buzz Lightyear spinning toy to take home and I got my pin to add to my collection, along with a doll for Mae's room. :) However, when we were finished it was 6pm... on a Friday. No way we should be getting on a freeway then. So we put our name in at Naples and enjoyed dinner there. Ace got himself a balloon from the balloon guy and enjoyed his motorcycle man immensely.
After dinner we headed home and Ace told us that: "I had a good time today at Mickey Park" - I love that his vocabulary is becoming so clear. I also love that he had such a great time at one of my favorite places in the world. Yes, for me Disneyland really is one of the Happiest Places on Earth. It was a great end to a great day. Ace fell asleep about 15 minutes after we were on the road and my mom and I enjoyed the commute home in 8pm traffic of the Orange County freeways --- ahh So Cal!
